Warders

Our Warders based at the Tower of London, Hampton Court Palace and Kensington Palace, help visitors to explore the story of how monarchs and people have shaped society, in some of the greatest palaces ever built. They provide a warm welcome to our many visitors and look after the security, fabric and content of the building, and control visitor access. Warders have an important role as storytellers, leading guided tours and bringing history to life, by offering fascinating factual details about the palace and its residents.

Yeoman Warders

The Yeoman Warders at the Tower of London are all ex-regular military personnel with at least 22 years’ service. They take guided tours of the palace several times every day. Their duties also include looking after the security of the Tower and its surrounding area.

'For this job you need to be firm but fair, approachable and willing to help. You also have to be able to immediately control a situation. This may include getting 300 plus people to do exactly as you say as quickly as you want them to do it.'

Admissions and Welcome Centre staff

First impressions are lasting impressions! We consider welcoming our visitors a very important role at all our palaces. Our knowledgeable and friendly Admissions and Welcome Centre teams provide high levels of customer care by selling entrance tickets and guidebooks, and fielding questions on all aspects of the palace and its gardens.

Retail assistants

We have several themed shops at each of our palaces selling a large variety of merchandise to visitors from all over the world. It is the job of the retail team to make each palace an unforgettable experience for every single customer. As well as serving and advising customers, the role includes keeping the shop running smoothly and make sure that the shelf displays are always attractive and well stocked.
