4. When does the Guard March/Changing the Guard Occur and where is the best place to see it?

April to the end of July: daily Monday to Saturday (never on a Sunday). August to March: on alternate days depending on the month but again never on a Sunday. It is also weather dependent.

At approximately 10:50am the guards march from Victoria Barracks on Sheet Street, up the High Street and into the Castle. They march back approximately 11:30.

5. Can I take a day trip from Windsor to London?

Windsor is only a short bus or train journey away to Central London. The Green Line bus (702/701) takes around an hour to get to London from Windsor and stops at Hammersmith, Hyde Park, South Kensington, Kensington High Street and Buckingham Palace Road.

You can also get a train from Windsor & Eton Central to London Paddington (with one change at Slough). The whole journey takes around 30-45 minutes depending on connections. Alternatively Windsor & Eton Riverside Station operates a direct service to London Waterloo in just under an hour.

Due to security reasons Windsor Town Centre does not have any left luggage facilities.

The only place where luggage in Windsor can be left is at Windsor Castle. All luggage has to be scanned and be able to fit through ‘airport sized’ security scanners. Whilst you are in the Castle you are able to leave your luggage in the cloakroom free of charge but it must be collected before you exit the Castle.

7. Is Windsor accessible for Wheelchair users?

The nature of the Royal Borough presents some inherent problems common to many historical towns and cities. The Castle is on a steep hill and some of the shops, restaurants and hotels are less accessible to wheelchair users because of their historic nature.

However, Windsor Castle and Legoland® Windsor – two of the UK's top visitor attractions – are fully accessible to wheelchair users and the Royal Borough’s other attractions are working hard towards improving their facilities for a range of disabilities. If you would like more information visit our Travelling with a Disability page or call Royal Windsor Information centre on 00.
